Letter from Mr. Corey

July 30, 2020

Hello Terriers!

We are making preparations for a great 2020-2021 school year!  I wanted to update you regarding where we are right now,  what work we are doing, and what you can expect this school year.

School is scheduled to start for students on August 24, 2020, and we will be prepared to receive all of our students for in school learning every day. We are planning to have a normal/regular school year, with the addition of the social distancing, masking, and hygiene practices that are required of us by the Executive Order signed by Governor Whitmer which lays out the directive for a Return to School Roadmap for district’s to follow.

Our entire staff is working together to come up with the ideal plan for The Terriers, including;

  • We will have a consistent daily schedule that starts and ends at the same time every day. There will be no more “early release Wednesdays”.

  • We are keeping our Pre-K through 5 students self contained throughout the day. This means that elementary students will not need to wear a mask while in class!

  • Using outdoor grounds frequently for fresh air, exercise, and stress relief for students and teachers. This is available at the discretion of the teacher.

  • Classes are being assigned to rooms by class size and room size in order to allow the maximum amount of space for students.

  • Our 6-12 student schedule has been changed from a 7 period day to a six period day, while still maintaining all of our programming.This reduces the class load for all students, lengthens each class by about 10 minutes , and provides more time to work in core classes with the assistance of certified Teachers.

While we believe that in person learning is best, we are also planning for a distance learning program based on our in person learning program. This will provide an option for parents who choose not to have their child return to in person learning for medical or other reasons. This distance learning program will be completely different from what we did last spring. The plan we are designing for the Fall of 2020 is meant to be like in person school. Students will have a schedule of  teacher instruction,  teacher/student interaction, attendance, grades, and participation. Elementary teachers and students will be using the SeeSaw platform, and secondary teachers and students will use Google Classroom, in addition to Plato online classes.
