Dear Terrier Families,

We at Litchfield Schools have been notified that a staff member of Litchfield Community Schools has tested positive for COVID-19. Upon receiving notification we started working with the Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph Health Department and the staff member to start the contact tracing process to determine how we should proceed as a school. Only one other staff person has been identified as being potentially exposed to the infected person. That person has not tested positive and has experienced no symptoms. Both of these staff persons will remain in quarantine as determined by the Health Department. We understand that everyone would like more details about this situation but due to privacy rights, there is only so much we can tell you.

Based on the information we have and the recommendations of the Branch Hillsdale and St. Joseph Health Department, there is no need for us to close the school and move to Distance Learning. It appears that none of our other students or staff have been exposed and are in no danger. Other than those two people who are quarantined, all of our in-person students and staff will continue to attend in person, and all of our regularly scheduled events will continue as planned.

I suppose we all knew that eventually, someone connected with our school would test positive for COVID-19. The good news is that it appears that our containment measures have helped us to limit the spread. Thanks to all of our parents, students, and staff for all you do to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. If you feel like I do, then you are pretty tired of having your life and your normal routine disrupted. However, in order to keep our school open, we have to continue to follow our strategies and plans. Let’s all work patiently together to defeat this virus, and thank you for your continued cooperation and support. Call me if you have any questions.

Mike Corey, Superintendent
